our mission

The Abriter housing program offers temporary accommodation to pregnant youth and young parents in precarious situations, by providing personalized holistic support within a stable, safe, and dynamic environment, facilitating a transition into autonomy and long-term housing.

Abriter offers temporary accommodation to pregnant youth and young parents aged 14-30 in precarious situations, by providing personalized holistic support within a stable, safe, and dynamic environment, facilitating a transition into autonomy and long-term housing. Abriter services are based on Christian values and are provided without discrimination to all individuals. Participants are referred through Options Resource & Pregnancy Center for Youth which is a program of Montreal Youth Unlimited.

Services are provided in both French and English, and are offered to clientele within Quebec. The Transitional Home accommodates 7 mothers (pregnant or with children up to age 5) and is located in Chateauguay on the south shore. Shepherding Homes (opening in 2024) located throughout the Greater Montreal Region accommodate one young parent who is pregnant or with children depending on availability.

MONTREAL YOUTH UNLIMITED

Abriter is run by charitable, faith-based, organization Montreal Youth Unlimited, which sees the hope and potential in every young person. MYU provides community-based programs that connect passionate people to the aspirations of Quebec youth.

our history

It all started when…

The women who founded this mission believed that each of us need to be bold, be brave, be inclusive, be loving, and get moving in order to see the wonders of God in action. After many years of prayer, in 2014 they opened their hearts and a home for youth in need. They formed a committee, joined the Montreal Youth Unlimited [MYU] team, bought a house, and welcomed their first pregnant young woman.

AND THE MISSION CONTINUES…

In 2021, the ministry transitioned to operate as part of MYU’s Options Resource & Pregnancy Centre for Youth in Chateauguay. This shift ushered in a broader vision and mission of supporting young parents to thrive. A seniors residence was purchased and beautifully renovated to accomodate seven young women and their families. A plan is in place to develop a network of shepherding homes across the greater Montreal region in years to come which will serve both young mothers and young fathers.
